Candidates explain why they switched

Ending lifelong allegiances to the Republican Party in Kansas was no simple matter.
“I didn’t sleep well that night,” said Kent Goyen of Pratt, who’s running for the 114th District seat.
But each of the party jumpers had a common tonic — visits with Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, either in person or by telephone.
Those talks eased the way for several new Democrats.
“She said we are all Kansans,” said Judy Leyerzapf of Abilene. “I think that’s a great answer. We’re all about the same thing, really.”
If you only forward one email this year, make it this one... America needs to know the truth about John Sidney McCain III and the disaster that awaits us if he becomes president.
DID YOU KNOW? John McCain came back from Vietnam and cheated on his disabled wife before leaving her and his three children and marrying a rich heiress 17 years his junior. McCain obtained a marriage license for his second marriage while he was still married to his first wife. (1)
CASS CO. DEMOCRATIC HEADQUARTERS NOW OPEN -
. CASS CO. DEMOCRATIC HEADQUARTERS VOLUNTEER STAFFERS NEEDED
It is a very exciting time to be a Democrat in Missouri. We have three wonderful candidates running for President. I have been volunteering for the campaign of Senator Barack Obama since last February, and I can tell you first hand that we have a lot of people in our state who are becoming excited about politics for the first time in their lives. In fact, we have over 100 people in Belton and Raymore alone that have contacted Barack Obama's campaign, thru his web site and also by phone. This last weekend Senator Claire McCaskill endorsed Senator Obama, she joins with Susan Montee, US Rep.
As the rule of law is flaunted by our President two days before Independence Day, it is time for renewal of our Declaration of Independence.

August in Texas is more than just hot. It is stifling, oppressive, drenching, and about as uncomfortable as possible. It is so hot it is scary. The temperature is almost always above 100 during the day and cools down to about 75 at night.
Yet, in these conditions, 12,000 people came to central Texas last August to show their support for the mother of a soldier who died in Iraq. Cindy Sheehan came here to talk to the president at his vacation home to ask him what was the noble cause her son died for.
Cindy never got her audience with the president but she did build a movement. Since last August, Cindy has returned to Crawford three times and her followers have come here to join her each and every time.
Hi folks...we've been tweaking the heck out of my campaign website and I am happy to announce that it is now up and running. Feel free to stop by at http://www.andyforkansas.org .
Thanks as always for your support!

10 Characteristics of A True US Patriot
We, the People of the United States of America, finding ourselves repeatedly misled by those charged with the care and governance of our nation, know that partisan politics have resulted in a serious breach of the public trust.
We have suffered attacks against our Constitutional rights and the founding tenets of this Democratic Republic.
We have suffered the infringement of our freedoms.
We have suffered insult to our honor and integrity as proud citizens.
We will no longer suffer in silence this continued assault that has now passed beyond intolerable.

Anti-war and anti-Bush fervor is growing among rank and file Democrats, threatening to pull the party to the left and creating a rift between increasingly belligerent activists and the party's leaders in Washington.
Many outside-the-Beltway Democrats want the party to turn forcefully against the war in Iraq and to investigate, censure or even impeach President Bush should the party win control of Congress this fall.
Yet party leaders such as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York have maintained support for the war while criticizing the way Bush handled it, and have shied away from talk of using power to go to after him.
This URL is from Democratic Underground (Thank you, johnnyrocket!) and is referring to a story reported on MyDD blog. I think this is important to rmember this because any legislation that is pushed through Congress is "Republican legislation". In our FRAMING, we need to always refer to "the Republican-controlled Congress", to hit the point home with the Sheeple when they are unhappy with legislation!!

Howard Dean:
One: American jobs that will stay in America, using energy independence to generate those jobs.
Two: A strong national defense based on telling the truth to our citizens, our soldiers and our allies.
Three: Honesty and integrity to be restored to government.
Four: A health care system that works for everybody just like they have in 36 other countries.
Five: A strong public education system so we can bring optimism and opportunity back to America."
I received this link from Vicki Walker and I thought it was a very clear way to understand our budget!! Please share with your friends, even your KoolAid-drinking Sheeple friends!!!

From the Democratic national website. Take some time to go thru the slides to see just how each one of us can make a difference on each precinct level. Also, I love the 'bottom up' upside down triangle!

Democrats Versus the Peace Movement?
Commentary: With Congress still blindly heeding the Bush administration, the anti-war movement is the only hope for peace in Iraq.

Article created by Foreign Policy in Focus.
The U.S. Congress failed in recent weeks to take even symbolic steps to encourage a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, even though the majority of Americans support an end to the war. Many anti-war advocates are hoping that the mid-term U.S. elections in November will push Congress into Democratic hands and thereby increase the chances of ending the war. Don't hold your breath.
This is an example of two different ways to post a picture.
Here is a picture of Anne, Pam, and Evl from Photobucket. Enjoy.

The second one has been added to this site by creating a new image.

I have created a Google Groups dicscussion list for DFHA. To signup for it, see the link at the bottom left of the page, right below the DFA Link Sign up. You can simply enter your address, and click subscribe. Easy deal.
My expectation is that the DFHA will become whatever it becomes. My hope is that it becomes more than just a place of announcements, but rather a place where people discuss and have civil debate about issues of the day. I'm hoping for more original content, member's thoughts, than simply forwarding the latest news article. I want to hear YOUR voice, and not some professional journalist. I get enough of that already. :-)
I have created a new political blog entitled "Conscious Values" for the articulation of positions on all outstanding issues, positions designed to attain Democratic-Party victories at all geographical levels (local and state -- as well as national -- races, especially in November 2006 and 2008).
Please do read carefully as many as possible of the over 50 entries -- covering the whole spectrum of issues now facing our Party, our nation, and our human race -- and then let me know how you feel about them and what you and I might write to make them better, tighter, broader, sharper, more moderate, more penetrating, or just more readable in your opinion.
I'd like to express my appreciation for GKCDFA's endorsement of my candidacy for the Kansas House. It's understandable that, in the past, many metro Kansas City activist groups have been a bit Missouri-centric. But with Kansas's political landscape going through what I believe to be a true tectonic shift, it is heartening (no pun intended) that this ever-evolving (poignant verb intended) organization has already reached westward across the state line, by endorsing me and several of my colleagues.
I believe I can speak for all our Johnson County House candidates when I say that your support and your volunteer efforts on our behalf are greatly appreciated.
This is the entire speech that I gave at the GKCDFA meeting on July 5, 2006 at Californo's in Westport announcing the formation of this new organization, DFHA.
I have a prepared announcement to share with you. I'll be happy to answer any questions at the end.
Open communication, Cooperation, and Community. These are three fundamental progressive values that bring us all together. Open communication, Cooperation, and Community. These are values that unite us.
Today, the Kansas City progressive community seems to be a community divided. We allow ourselves to be divided by the state line, county lines, rivers, and issues. We allow ourselves to be divided in many ways that, when you step back from it, are artificial and insignificant divisions. Although policy details divide us, our values unite us. We are united in our world views. We are united by the things that really matter. We are joined at our hearts. We call this area the Heart of America, and for good reason. It's more than just a geographic area in the heart of the country. It's also a place where people care about each other, and they feel a mutual responsibility for each other.
