Plain terms for using this site, the register, the Charter, and the ombudsman. By using them, you agree to what is set out below.

This website is run by the Dog Friendly Hotel Association, an independent, non-profit association. The register and the Charter are here to inform travellers. We are an information and standards service, not a booking agent or a travel company, and we do not take payment for stays.
We list hotels we have assessed against the Charter and we work to keep each listing accurate. Even so, things change. Always confirm the details that matter to you, such as fees, deposits, and dog policies, directly with the hotel before you book. A listing is our honest assessment, not a guarantee of any particular stay.
The DFHA name, seal, and Charter are ours. Member hotels may display the seal only while they are members in good standing, and only as we permit. No one else may copy or use them to imply membership or endorsement.
Membership of the association is a business-to-business arrangement between the association and a hotel, inn, or place of lodging. It is entered for the purposes of a trade or business, not as a consumer. Membership runs for twelve months from the day you join and renews automatically each year, at the fee shown when you join, unless you cancel before it renews. By joining, you confirm that you are authorised to enter this arrangement on behalf of your hotel and that your hotel meets every commitment in the Charter in full. Those confirmations are conditions of membership and are relied upon by the association.
Membership fees are paid yearly and in advance. Your membership renews automatically at the end of each term unless you cancel beforehand, and you may cancel at any time to stop the next renewal. Fees already paid are not refundable. Assessment, verification, and listing work begins as soon as you join, so a paid term is not refunded if you cancel partway through, or if your hotel is later suspended or removed. The association may change its fees for future terms, with notice given before any renewal.
As a member you agree to meet the Charter in full for as long as you are listed, to use the seal and name only as the association permits, to keep the information you give us accurate and current, and to tell us promptly of anything that changes what your listing should say. You are responsible for the welcome your hotel actually provides to dogs and their owners. The association sets and checks the standard; it does not run, manage, or take responsibility for your hotel or any stay within it.
You agree to cover and hold harmless the association, and the people who operate, govern, and volunteer for it, against any claim, demand, loss, or cost (including reasonable legal costs) arising from your hotel, your conduct, the information you give us, your use or misuse of the seal or name, or any stay at your hotel. This does not apply to loss caused by the association's own serious fault or wilful default.
Membership is a promise to keep the Charter. The association may suspend or remove any hotel that falls short of it, misuses the seal or name, gives false or misleading information, or brings the register into disrepute. Where it reasonably can, the association will raise the matter first and give a chance to put it right. Removal ends the right to use the seal immediately, and a suspended or removed membership is not refunded.

Our ombudsman mediates between dog owners and member hotels in good faith and free of charge. It offers a neutral path to resolution. It is not a court or a regulator, it does not give legal advice, and it cannot award compensation or force any outcome.
The register links out to hotels' own websites. We are not responsible for the content, bookings, or privacy practices of any site we link to.
We provide this site and our services with reasonable care, but we offer them as they are and cannot promise they are error-free, uninterrupted, or that any listing is complete or current. To the fullest extent the law allows, the association, and the people who operate it, are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of business, bookings, profit, savings, or reputation, arising from the site, the register, the Charter, the ombudsman, or your membership or dealings with a hotel. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited in total to the membership fee you paid in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law does not allow to be limited or excluded.
These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from membership, are governed by the law of England and Wales and fall to the courts of England and Wales. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version always lives here, and material changes are published openly.
